Iran Says Ship Struck Near Hormuz, One Dead

Iranian state media said an Iranian commercial ship was struck early Sunday off Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz, and that one person was killed.
The Associated Press and Yahoo News, citing Iran's state-run outlets, reported one dead and four wounded. An earlier report from The Independent put the wounded at three. CNN reported Sunday morning that Iran had reported a commercial vessel struck in the strait, also sourced to Iranian accounts.

US Central Command said in an update on X that American forces have redirected 100 commercial vessels over the past 60 days since the blockade against Iran resumed, Bloomberg reported Saturday. Newsweek reported the same count, noting the strait remains one of the world's most important maritime chokepoints for oil and natural gas exports.

The Times of Israel reported that an Iranian official said Tehran is still seeking an arrangement letting it charge ships a toll — something Muscat rejects. Bahrain said it will not take part, Al Jazeera reported; Iran told Al Jazeera the meeting is a sign of "good intentions" toward its neighbors.

Monday's meeting in Oman
Iran and Gulf states are due to meet Monday in Oman. A senior Iranian official told Reuters the meeting is a chance to discuss the strait but is not expected to produce a signed agreement. Reuters, citing Tasnim, reported that an Iran-Oman understanding does not provide for an immediate reopening but sets out a basis on which one could happen.
