Maher Calls Democrats' Gaza Genocide Claim a Lie

Bill Maher used his closing monologue on Friday's broadcast of HBO's "Real Time" to accuse prominent Democrats of knowingly repeating what he called a lie about Gaza.
"Gaza equals genocide is a lie, an easily provable lie, and the fact that so many prominent Democrats go along with it is, to me, the party's worst moment since they undid Reconstruction after the Civil War," Maher said, according to The Washington Times and Breitbart News.
The segment landed on the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, and Maher spent much of it on the media's handling of radical Islamic terror and on what he described as celebrity "moral confusion" feeding antisemitism.

Mediaite reported that Maher called Democratic politicians "cowards" in the same segment — pointedly contrasting them with the 9/11 hijackers, reviving the remark that ultimately cost him his first show.
Fox News reported Maher singled out the musician Macklemore, who has called the Gaza war a genocide, arguing that the claim from celebrities is helping drive a global rise in antisemitism.
Breitbart News reported Maher accused the press of taking a "very fine people on both sides" approach to Islamist terror.
Right-leaning outlets including Townhall, RedState and BizPac Review treated the monologue as a rebuke of Maher's own side, framing it as a comedian on the left turning on the "young left" and on leftist narratives about 9/11 and Gaza.

Maher hosts "Real Time" weekly on HBO and has repeatedly returned to Israel, Gaza and antisemitism on the show, making a follow-up segment likely.
None of the Democratic officials Maher criticized had been reported responding as of Saturday.
